People in town don’t know the Radleys and are suspicious. They think that Boo is a monster, that he only came out at night because they never see him during the day. They blame just about every small crime or any strange thing on Boo Radley. They let their imagination run away with them. Jem has grown up thinking that all these tall tales are true. He became superstitious from all the gossip and thought that Boo had blood stains on his hands because he ate squirrels raw. These stories about Boo are not true.
Boo is really the opposite of the tall tales. He is friendly and generous and gave Jem and Scout stuff through the knot hole that was important to him or he thought they would like. I think he wants to know Jem and Scout. Boo mended Jem’s pants when he left them caught on the fence. In the middle of the night when Scout and Jem were in front of his house because of the fire at Ms. Maudie’s Boo quietly put two warm blankets on their shoulders while they were watching the fire. Afterwards Atticus wanted to take the blankets over to the Radley’s, but Jem and Scout didn’t want to get Boo in trouble. They realized that Boo was nothing like what they thought he was. I think it all comes to show that the tall tales aren’t true.
